What You Need To Know About Weeds
Plant Life Cycles
Plants follow one of four different life cycles. Knowing a
weed’s life cycle helps you determine the optimal time
of year to apply the herbicide.
•Summer Annuals: Germinate from seed in the spring.
•Winter Annuals: Germinate from seed in the fall.
•Biennials: Germinate from seed in the spring and summer.
•Perennials: Germinate in spring when young and actively
growing.
Maximize The Kill Opportunity
Since the main objective is to prevent weeds from producing
and spreading seeds, they must be killed early in
the life cycle. Usually the best time of application
is when plants are young and vulnerable.
Less Is Better
Minimizing is the key to proper application. Always use the
least amount of herbicide necessary. Minimal applications
provide enough herbicide to completely kill weeds without
causing dangerous environmental or human hazards. Younger
weeds also require less herbicide for total kill.
