USE Selective Weed KillerFOR;
Chickweed Control
Chickweed is so called because it is often eaten by chickens. It
is also known as chickenwort, craches, maruns, and winterweed. It
is a winter annual plant that can be easily identified by its star-shaped
white flowers and broad leaves, and has a typical life cycle beginning
in fall and ending the following spring. Late spring and summer
are not pleasant seasons for chickweed as it doesn’t respond
well to hot, dry temperatures.
It grows all over the world and is a common nuisance for homeowners
mainly because it creates a dense, thick matte that is hard to pull
out. It has been known to carry certain viruses that could affect
nearby crops. The seeds are generally transported on people’s
shoes, by ants, and some seeds eaten by birds survive digestion
and will germinate in the bird’s waste.
